On December 6, 2023, LaVern Gwendolyn Bryant Reid, 76, passed away at Wake Medical Hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina. Born on April 11, 1947, to the late Willie Norman Bryant Sr. and Penina Campbell Bryant, she was one of thirteen children.
Following her graduation from Richard B. Harrison High School in Selma, North Carolina, she labored in Princeton, North Carolina, to earn her associate’s degree in order to work as a teacher’s aide. She married Elder Curtis Reid of Princeton, North Carolina on September 19, 1965, and the couple had two children together.
Later, LaVern and Curtis moved to Raleigh, North Carolina, where she worked for 40 years as the lead administrative assistant at Fred A. Olds Elementary School. She would influence, uplift, and mentor a multitude there. She would make a
difference in the lives of many people, including parents, teachers, custodians, principals, and children. She enabled Christ to shine through her in everyone she encountered as she matured in Him at a young age. She was a blessing from God to her neighborhood, church, and family.
When LaVern was just 14 years old, she joined Mount Zion Bible Church of God in Princeton NC and completely committed her life to Christ. She enjoyed her role as church secretary. Her role would soon change as she became the First Lady of Pisgah Top Bible Church of God in Erwin NC, Mt. Zion, Wilson Revival Center in Wilson, North Carolina, Gospel City in Raleigh, North Carolina, Holy Temple in Fayetteville, North Carolina, a few years later. She was appointed as an elder by Apostle R.L. Garner during this period. First Lady of Gospel City and Holy Temple was her present assignment.
Along with her parents, LaVern was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas Sherill Bryant and Jerome Bryant; three brothers-in-law, Willie Carpenter, Danny Ray Carpenter, and Bennie Dudley; and five sisters, Annette Clarke, Vivian Shepard, Patty Sue Bryant, Louise Bryant, and Wanda Faye Bryant.
Leaving behind to cherish her memory are her husband Reverend Dr. Curtis Reid, a daughter Christina Reid, a son Keith Reid, 3 grandchildren Corey Reid(Katherine), Cameryn Reid, and Kendall Reid, siblings Mary Dudley, Jean Carpenter, Willie Bryant Jr, Jonnie Bryant, Dwight Bryant; Sisters in love Regina Foye, Miriam Bryant, Virginia Young and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
