Benson, NC: Mrs. Laynelle Penny Stancil, age 93, of Benson passed away on January 19, 2023 at her home. Funeral Services will be held-3:00 PM Sunday, January 22, 2023 at Rose and Graham Funeral Chapel in Benson. Rev. Lawrence Powers will officiate. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery in Benson.
Mrs. Stancil was born on December 7, 1929 in Johnston County to the late Glenn and Ella Johnson Penny. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Lloyd Stancil; her grandson, Charles David Stancil; and brother, Stacy Penny.
She graduated from Benson High School class of 1947 as valedictorian. She retired from BB&T Bank after 43 years of service. She was an active member of Benson Baptist Church since 1953 where she served as secretary and treasurer of both the young ladies Sunday school class and the Sue Price Sunday school class as well as serving on the nominating committee. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Survivors include her son, Charles Stancil and wife, Mollie of Winterville, NC; granddaughters, Kimberly Johnson of Greenville, NC and Holly Walsh and husband, Kirin of Falls Church, VA; and one great granddaughter, Emery Walsh; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will hold an informal visitation prior to the service from 2:00 PM to 2:45 PM at Rose and Graham Funeral Home in Benson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her honor to Benson Baptist Church at PO Box 323 Benson, NC 27504.
