On February 26th, Leland M. Grice, Jr., of New Bern, formerly of Johnston County, passed away peacefully in the company of his wife at Carolina East Medical Center after a battle with complications due to pneumonia and Flu.
Leland is survived by his wife Teresa Carol Grice, daughter LeAnne Grice Holton (husband Larry), son Jason Pittman and (wife Lisa), son Jesse Pittman and (wife Jennifer) daughter Gina Forsythe and (husband Richard), son Mack Marcom and (fiancée Windy).
Grandchildren Hayden Holton, Landon Holton, Austin Holton, Robert Stull, Devin Stull, Stephanie Forsythe, Brittany Slaughter, Quinten Fyffe, and great grandchildren Bentlee, Ansleigh, and Bristol.
He is also survived by sisters, Carol Daniels and Sharon Hicks and nieces and nephews, Wendy Stile, Travis Grice, Joseph Grice, and Christopher Hicks, Erica Humphrey, sister-in-law, Janet Kleinert, brother-in-law, Erskine Kleinert; sister-in-law, Deanna Grice, and best friend, Keith Daniels.
He is preceded in death by his father, Leland M. Grice Sr and mother, Elizabeth (Ruby) Dozer Grice, daughter, Tina M. Grice and brother, William (Billy) Grice.
Leland worked and lived many years in Eastern NC where he worked various jobs operating heavy machinery, commercial fishing, construction, and manufacturing fish nets. He loved to fish and enjoyed being on the water.
Leland worked many years as a licensed tugboat captain of the tugboat Holly traversing many rivers and waterways throughout Eastern North Carolina. He worked with Foley and Foley Marine contractors for 22 years, as well as, Sawyer Land Development and most recently with James L. Cayton Company Land Division. Funeral for Captain Lee will be held at Neuse River Baptist Church, 3702 Old Cherry Point Rd New Bern on Sunday March 3rd at 3pm.
