Linda Overstreet Hicks

Linda Overstreet Hicks, age 74, died Thursday morning at UNC Johnston Health. Born October 20, 1951, in Lunenburg County, VA to the late Arthur William and Janie Annie Hancock Overstreet, she was the widow of Phillip Lee Hicks and was preceded in death by her; brother, Arthur William (Bubba) Overstreet; sisters, Judy Mertsch (Gerhard), Laura Jessee (William) and Betty Dawson (Tom); mother and father-in-law, Jessie and Marie Hicks and son-in-law, George Crocker, Sr. Grammy devoted her life to the people she loved most.

A truly selfless woman, she leaves behind a family who will forever cherish the lessons she taught them about love, kindness, and devotion. She found her greatest joy in spending time with her family – especially on shopping trips with her beloved “Bulldogs,” the loving nickname she gave her daughters. She also treasured family gatherings and took every opportunity to spoil her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with endless love and attention.

Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those she nurtured, guided, and loved so deeply.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at the Parrish Funeral Home in Selma from 1:00 – 2:00 pm with a funeral service to follow in the chapel. A private graveside service will be held later.

Surviving are her son, Phillip Lee Hicks, Jr. of Wendell; daughters, Annie Ray and husband Scott of Princeton, Penny Kirby and husband Russell and Cathy Tant and husband Mike all of Wendell; previous son-in-law, Gregory Ardis of Lillington; sister, Lillie “Lil” Price and husband Courtney and Phyllis Newton and husband Marshall all of Virginia; brother-in-law, Terry Hicks and wife Karen of Benson; grandchildren, Linsey Dale (Cody), Joseph Kirby (Katelyn), George Crocker, Jr, (Ciara), Adam Ardis (Avery), Heather Kirby and Abby Hicks; great grandchildren, Carter Dale, Conner Kirby, Addison Kirby, Carson Dale and Charley Kirby, her beloved cat “Tater Tot” and many nieces and nephews.

The family extends a very special thank you to her ICU care team.
