    Linwood Kay Hill passed away peacefully at 80 years old on Tuesday, August 20th, 2024, while in his sleep in Garner NC. Linwood was born on July 31st, 1944, to Eddie Wilson Hill and Hattie Stanley Hill. He was preceded in death by his sisters. Lib Murray, Cindy Braswell, Mable Holmes, Faye Brantley, Louise Clement, Marie Yates and his twin sister, Brenda Nordman; brothers: infant Will Thomas, who passed away at infancy, and Eddie Wilson, and Ray Hill. He is survived by his sister, Patsy Worlds, and brother, George ‘GB’ Hill.

    Linwood grew up in a family with eleven other siblings, so knew love his whole life. Everyone will sorely miss him. He enjoyed working with his hands fixing old things and building new ones. He never gave a second thought to putting that skill to beneficial use by helping the family and friends he cared for. There was never a job that he could not do, and he loved helping others. One only needs to drive down the HWY 70 bypass, just pass the prison, to see the roof that he had put on to the Department of Transportation building that is located there. He was proud of the work he did. It was a way to leave a positive mark on the world and the people he cared about. If it was building a porch, working on a car, fixing the plumbing, or roofing a shed or house; please stop and take a moment to look at it. Remember Linwood Kay Hill did that.

    Linwood was proud of his years as an M.P. with the United States Army Reserve, serving from Sep 1962 to Sep 1970 with the 805th MP Corps in Raleigh NC., and pulling duty at Fort Polk and Fort Bragg. Linwood developed his passion for NASCAR when growing up near to the Wake Speedway. One of his fond memories was sneaking into the gate to watch the races. He was so well known that the ticket booth lady had started just waving him in.

    Linwood worked for the Department of Transportation, starting off in the road and bridge departments and working his way up to Maintenance Engineer, a job which he loved. He retired from the N.C.D.O.T Maintenance after thirty years of service. Linwood was married three times, to Sondra Gale Holloway, Betty McCartney, and Rebecca Charles Hill. He loved old cars, dogs, and family, but it is family that he loved more than anything.

    Linwood is survived by his sister, Patsy Worlds and brother, George “GB” Hill; his four children: Ronnie Hill, Michael Hill, James Hill and Tammy Hill as well as his four grandchildren; Joey Hill, Braydn and Cooper Ross, and Melissa Hill; and two great grandchildren: Ava Hill and Lucas Hill.

    Visitation will be held at Parrish Funeral Home in Selma, NC on Saturday August 31, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM with graveside service to follow in Price cemetery.
