Lois Ann Strickland

Lois Ann Barnes Strickland, age 91, of Selma, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 25, 2026, in Charleston, South Carolina. Born August 25, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Bertie Holland Barnes. In addition to her parents, Lois is preceded in death by her husband, James C. Strickland; children, Pamela Spencer, Jimi Strickland and Lori Herring; and siblings, Rudolph Barnes, James Elmer Barnes, Harold Barnes, Walter Barnes, Louise Barnes Wall, and Willis Holland Barnes.

Lois’ hobbies were quilting and reading and most importantly conversing with anyone she met. It was said that she never met a stranger. Her Selma Baptist Church friends and classmates were very important to her. When asked what her biggest accomplishment was, she stated, getting her nursing license and becoming a nurse.

Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at 11:15am, at the family cemetery, located at 89 Bailey Boykin Road in Selma. The family will receive visitors prior to the service, from 10:00am-11:00am, at Parrish Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, at https://www.heart.org/en/.

Lois is survived by her children, Janie McGuire of Charleston, South Carolina, Brenda Brown of Columbia, South Carolina, Regina Meyer (Ken) of Birmingham, Alabama, Susan Edwards of Glade Valley, and Michael Strickland of Hickory; 18 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
