Mary Gahan Elmore, age 95, of 1112 South Second Street, Smithfield, NC died Saturday, November 12, 2022 at her home in Smithfield.
The funeral services for Mrs. Elmore will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 19, 2022 in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Saturday just prior to the service at the funeral home.
She was born on March 25, 1927 in Laurens, SC to the late James Joseph and Sarah Franks Gahan. She lived in Laurens, SC then St Louis, MO and then Chattanooga, TN where she graduated from high school in 1945. After graduation she worked as a secretary at TVA in Chattanooga, TN where she met the love of her life at a dance and she married Ernest Elmore in 1952. They moved to Winston Salem, NC shortly there after and their two sons Mike and Chris were born there. After a brief move to TX and Eden, NC the family moved to Smithfield in 1960.
Mary and her husband were avid dancers and almost never sat a song out at the area dances. She also enjoyed playing bridge with friends. Her sons remember her for all the time she patiently spent helping them with homework especially reading, writing and grammar.
She is survived by her two sons, Mike Elmore of Smithfield, NC and Chris Elmore of Leland, NC, grandchildren Stephen Elmore of Carbondale, CO and Elizabeth Felts of Leland, NC and two great grand children James Felts and Emily Felts.
