    Smithfield – Mickey Bryan Thompson, age 61, passed away peacefully at UNC Johnston Health in Smithfield on Thursday May 18, 2023. He was born in Johnston County on August 1, 1961. He is preceded in death by his father, Billy D. Thompson; special uncles, Rev. Kenneth Thompson and “Rayboy” Thompson as well as other aunts and uncles.

    Mickey was a very special person to so many. To know him was to love him. He never met a stranger and always managed to strike up a conversation whether he knew you or not. He truly loved everybody he knew.

    The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to those that took special time out of their days to entertain Mickey and spend some quality time with him, especially after the passing of his daddy. Chad Thompson, cousin, for all the calls and trips around town. Ronnie Snead, friend, for all the rides to Bentonville Battleground to put out flags and trips to Bo Jangles and Krispy Kreme. Mike Carter, family friend, for all the calls, visits, and many more trips around town. Special neighbors, Earl Marett for all the trips to breakfast and playing all of Mickeys favorite songs. Helen Daughtry, for all the outside singing and Sandra Johnson for all the homemade muffins and conversations. The family is grateful for all the love Mickey has received over the years.

    A funeral service will be held in the chapel of Parrish Funeral home on Monday May 22, 2023 at 2 PM. Committal will follow in the service in Selma Memorial Gardens. The family will receive visitors at the home at other times.

    Mickey is survived by his mother, Jean Thompson of Smithfield; sister, Vickie Jackson and husband Jason of Mount Olive; special niece, Ally Jackson “ Little Girl”.
