Mildred J. Crumpler, age 99, died Wednesday morning, January 4, 2023. Born December 29, 1923 in Johnston County to the late Rufus and Mary Parker Johnson, she was the widow of J. C. Crumpler who died in 1963 and was preceded in death by a son Mark Johnson Crumpler. Mildred was also preceded in death by all of her brothers, Roy, Rupert, Ralph and Zola and sister, Mabel.
She was a lifelong member of Hopewell Free Will Baptist Church and a longstanding member of the Smithfield Chapter # 121 Order of the Eastern Star for more than 65 years. Mildred dearly loved her family. As Mom, Grandma, Nana, Aunt Bill or Aunt Mildred, she was a guiding light through her faith and generosity, always putting others first. She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling, cooking, fishing and spending time with life-long friends.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 9, 2023 in Hopewell Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Roger Hill officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. just prior to the service. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
Surviving are her sons, Steve Crumpler and wife Louise of Smithfield and Cam Crumpler and wife Kathy of Hampstead; 4 grandchildren, Michael, Stephanie, Cory and Kara and 5 great-grandchildren, Lauren, Adam, Dale, Allen and Triton.
