Birth Date: 02/19/1931
Deceased Date: 01/04/2025
In loving memory of our father, Oscar L. Hinton, 93, of Selma, NC, who passed peacefully on January 4, 2025. He was born to Oscar and Elizabeth Hinton of Wilson County, NC. Upon the death of his mother at age 2, he was raised by his uncle and aunt, Hubert and Frances Avery of Selma, NC.
Oscar graduated Selma High School in 1949. He enlisted in the USAF serving as a communications specialist at Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage, Alaska. After his military service he attended NC State College, specializing in Auditing and Engineering. He met our mother, Lou Nell Parrott, in High School, married and raised three children. He worked at Western Electric, Shallcross, Sylvania, and retired from CP&L in Raleigh as a Quality Assurance Auditor in their Nuclear Plant Division.
Upon retirement, he and Mama enjoyed gardening on the farm, traveling, and spoiling their 3 grandchildren until her death in 2005. He is also preceded in death by brothers Randall Hinton and Carlton Hinton, and a sister, Juanita Hinton.
He was a man of strong faith and he taught us the importance of family, hard work, and doing what is right.
He is survived by his children Derek Hinton and spouse, Dottie Hinton of Elon, NC, Miles Hinton of Selma, NC, and Sandra Hinton and spouse, Henry Kahen, of Pine Knoll Shores, NC.
Grandchildren Emily Hinton of Greensboro, NC, Betsy Hinton of Selma, NC, and Natalie Patten and spouse, Brian Patten of Cary, NC and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Marjorie Workman and a brother, Douglas Hinton, wife Judy, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Pop, Daddy, Papa, and Big Papa, you are now at peace and walking with Mama in heaven. You will live forever in our hearts. We love you so much. Rest in peace.
