Osie Gray Wood

Wilsons Mills- Osie Gray Byrd Wood, age 90, passed away Friday October 31, 2025 at Parkwood Village Assisted Living in Wilson. She was born in Johnston County on January 23, 1935 to the late Alfred Byrd and Maggie Eason Byrd. In addition to her father and mother, she is also preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Sherwood Wood; brothers, Kenneth and Frank Byrd;

A graveside service will be held in Knollwood Memorial Park on Tuesday November 4, 2025 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Billy Lawson officiating.

She is survived by her daughter, Vickie Thompson and husband Scott of Wilson; brother, Donald Byrd and wife Fleta of Wilsons Mills; sister, Faye Wright of Wilsons Mills; her pride and joy, grandson, Scott Lee Thompson II of New Bern; several nieces and nephews.

Osie enjoyed the simple things in life such as gardening and flowers. She received her engineering and drafting degree in 1960. She was a member of Wilsons Mills Baptist Church and also the first woman draftsman in the state of North Carolina.
