Phil was born on July 3, 1942, in Guilford County, NC, to his late father, D.C. Shaw, and his late mother, Carrie Lee Beasley Shaw. Phil attended undergraduate school at UNC-Chapel Hill, graduating in 1964 before going on to law school at Wake Forest University. Beginning in 1969, Mr. Shaw returned to his home county and devoted the next 55 years of his life to the practice of law, providing invaluable counsel and support to his clients. His life was marked by a deep sense of dedication to his community and willingness to lend a helping hand in any situation. A proud veteran, Mr. Shaw served in the United States Marine Corps. His service reflects the values of discipline and commitment that he carried into his professional life. Phil will be remembered for his extraordinary contributions to the lives he touched and the legacy of service he leaves behind.
Phil is survived by his loving wife, Judy C. Shaw of the home; son, Chris Hinnant and wife Anna Marie of Wilmington; daughter, Melissa Finch and husband David of Four Oaks; and grandchildren, Rhys Finch, Thomas Hinnant, Zoie Finch, Emerson Hinnant, and Ely Finch; his sister, Barbara Shaw of Four Oaks; and numerous cousins and extended family.
