Randolph Byron Lewis

    Birth Date: 01/14/1936
    Deceased Date: 05/13/2024

Randolph Byron Lewis Jr., the son of the late Ernestine Briscoe and the late Randolph Byron Lewis Sr. was born on January 14, 1936, in Washington DC. He transitioned into eternal rest on May 13, 2024, at the Wake Med Hospital in Raleigh, NC. Randolph was known as “Big Lew” to his close friends, & “Junior/ Papa Lew/ Papa Bear” to his family. He was a devoted husband, dedicated father, and motivating friend to many.

Randolph (Junior) graduated from Thomas Stone Annex with a high school diploma which he was so proud to obtain. His teachers noticed that he had a passion for education and asked him to teach other students after receiving his diploma. Junior worked for over 30 years as a manager for McDonalds and retired proudly with enough money to move his family into their dream home. If you knew Junior, you know that he could not sit still at all. Eager to get back to work, Junior found a new passion in building service work with the Charles County Board of Education. Junior made a name for himself as a dedicated employee and received many awards in return for his skills, talents, and ideas.

A “Jack of All Trades” amply describes Junior. In his younger days he played football for the Virginia Cavaliers and even tried out for his favorite football team, The Washington Commanders (formerly known as The Washington Redskins) after a recruiter saw his performance. However, his mother begged him not to play because she feared he would get hurt. He loved gardening, cooking, and performing maintenance repairs and enhancements on homes. Junior was the go-to man and could find a solution to any challenging task or project presented to him. Junior was an avid fisherman and possessed many life skills most of us wished we had. Junior was not ashamed to tell you his life story nor share events that made him change his life and to become the man we knew. Junior was baptized by his brother-in-law, Bishop Carlton Jackson, Sr. He knew the Lord and shared one of his favorite quotes often, “Those without sin…cast the first stone!”

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Mary Ann Lewis, his children Tonya Taylor (Jeff), Mark King (Donna), Debra Mathis, Jeanette Lewis (James), LaKaya Lewis (Kevin), Lloyd Montgomery (Tabitha), Terrean Montgomery, Monty Montgomery (Cassandra), 3 sisters-in-law and 3 brothers-in-law, 33 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, other family and close friends.

Preceding Junior in death are his father, Randolph B. Lewis Sr., mother Ernestine Briscoe, brothers Robert Holmes & Vincent Holmes, daughters Vicki Lomax, and Deborah Merritt.
