Willow Spring, NC: Mr. Ray “Bill” Newell Strickland, age 80, of Sanders Road passed away on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at UNC Rex Healthcare in Raleigh. Funeral Services will be held-2:00PM Wednesday July 26, 2023 at Restoration Church in Willow Spring. Officiating will be Revs. Josh Brown and Danny Hudson. Burial will follow in Knollwood Cemetery in Clayton.
Mr. Strickland was born on May 11, 1943 in Sampson County to the late Ray Harrison and Adelle Baker Strickland. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Justin Ray Strickland and brother-in-law, Lloyd Smith.
Prior to retirement, Mr. Strickland was a printer with Westland Enterprises and Litho Industries. He was talented and caring in many aspects of his life. He was a master of woodworking, an avid busy body, and an amazing gardener. He enjoyed being out in nature and caring for his dogs. When Ray wasn’t working or finding something to fix around his beautiful yard, he could be found riding the roads to the local Lowe’s to find his next project.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Loretta Strickland; daughter, Cindy Chapman and husband, Larry; son, Chris Strickland; grandchildren, Kellie Kinlaw and husband, Logan, Kasie Odham and husband, Hunter, Karrie Huston and husband, Shane, Melissa Strickland, Blake Chapman, and Faith Chapman; great grandchildren, Rayleigh Strickland, Lily Strickland, Lucy Strickland, Justin “J.D.” Huston, and Lucas Wilson; sisters, Brenda Sue Smith and Jody Stevens and husband, Robert; and special family, Jimmy and Marni Walker, Jeremy and Monica Chapman, Danny and Tamaria Lawson, and Britney Strickland.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM prior to the service at Restoration Church.
