Smithfield—Robert Lester Worsham, 67, of Smithfield, NC passed from this earthly life into his eternal home, as his brother, Billy, and sister-in-law, Vicki, loved and comforted him on April 13, 2023. The family would like to thank all of the wonderful ICU Nurses at Johnston Health for their excellent and professional care, as they worked tirelessly 24 hours a day for two weeks in their attempt to help Bobby improve. Bobby was the youngest son of Hilda B. Worsham and Bill G. Worsham, Sr.
Upon graduation from Smithfield-Selma Sr. High, he entered the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, NC and graduated in the spring of 1979. Bob and his brother, Billy supported Carolina Athletics by maintaining season football and basketball for over 30 years. Their blood ran tarheel blue. After graduation, he accepted a job with Bristol Myers Squibb and held numerous management positions for 25 years, until he took early retirement in 2004. After a short retirement, he moved to Smithfield to begin another career representing furniture companies. He traveled the Southeast for 13 years until he decided to take a position at Rooms To Go in Dunn, NC. He was still employed with RTG at the time of his death.
In Smithfield, Bob was devoted to First Presbyterian Church and served on numerous committees. He worked tirelessly as an Elder and on their Capital Campaign. He also served on several town committees and truly worked to make Smithfield a better place to live.
Bobby is survived by his older brother, Billy Worsham, and his wife, Vicki, of Blowing Rock, NC and their two children, Graham Worsham, wife Jaime, and son Powell of Charleston, SC and Eleanor (Worsham) Pugh and husband, Reagan of Austin, TX. Also, nephew, Alan Worsham of Eagle Mountain, Utah and Meredith Worsham of Benson, NC.
The family will receive friends at First Presbyterian Church in Smithfield, NC at 10:00 AM Wednesday, June 28, 2023 for visitation, followed by a celebration of Life at 11:00AM. A private interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to First Presbyterian Church or a charity of your choice.
