Robert Shelton Smith

Benson: Mr. Robert Shelton Smith, age 78, of Adams Road, passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at SECU Hospice House of Smithfield with his loving family by his side. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at Rose and Graham Funeral Home in Benson. Officiating will be Revs. Billy Nowell and Phil Lewis.

Mr. Smith was born on February 12, 1948, in Harnett County to the late James Roy and Christine Allen Smith. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Jackie Colville, and sister, Brenda Carr. Prior to retirement, he was a truck driver. Mr. Smith was a member of Pleasant Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church. He enjoyed going deep-sea fishing with his nephew, Rodney Jernigan, and visiting the mountains. He loved to watch NASCAR, go to the Turkey Shoot, and loved his pets. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Linda Smith; daughter, Christy Moore and husband, Russell; son, Robbie Smith and wife, V.J.; grandchildren, Justin Colville, Jessica Colville, Abby Messer, Kailey Smith, Laina Moore, and Carley Smith; 6 great grandchildren; and brother, Sherwood Smith.

The family will receive friends immediately following the memorial service at Rose and Graham Funeral Home in Benson.

The family would like to extend their thanks to the nurses and staff at the SECU Hospice House of Smithfield for their loving care.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield at 426 Hospital Road, Smithfield, NC 27577.
