Benson, NC: Mr. Robert Sherrill Denning, age 80, of Denning Road passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at the SECU Hospice House surrounded by his loving family. Funeral Services will be 11:00AM-Friday, October 6, 2023 at the Rose & Graham Funeral Home Chapel in Benson. Officiating will be Rev. Glenn McCullen. Burial will follow in Ebenezer Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Coats.
Mr. Denning was born on February 13, 1943 in Cumberland County to the late Clyde Sherrill and Edith Elizabeth Holmes Denning. He was preceded in death by his sister, Sue Frances Denning Bailey.
Mr. Denning was a retired farmer and a US Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam War. He was a long serving member of American Legion Banner Post 109 in Benson for over 50 years. Mr. Denning loved to gather at Pat’s with all the local seniors which he called the “Board of Directors.”
Surviving include his wife of 53 years, Wanda Kay Pollard Denning; daughter, Ashley Lynn Denning Herring and husband, Scotty; grandson, Ryan Herring and fiancé, Courtney Coats; a niece and a nephew.
The family will receive friends from 9:45AM to 10:45AM at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson prior to the service and other times at the home.
