Robert Smith was born February 18, 1953, in Brooklyn, New York to the late Mattie Morris and Charlie Smith. He attended New York City Tech, where he achieved an Associates Degree. After leaving college he worked security in various locations from Mary Macklin to working security at the NBA Store as the head manager. He enjoyed and valued all friendships. He loved life and spending time with family. After over 30 years of being together on November 16, 2011, he married the love of his life, Bonita Hamilton and they later relocated to North Carolina to enjoy retirement as well as his grandchildren.
Robert was known by different names: “Bob” to his family, “Burger” to the neighborhood children that looked to him as a father, but to all of his grandchildren, he was known as “Pop-Pop.”
He leaves behind to cherish in all his memories his wife Bonita. His brother Keith, sister-in-law Rita; sister Michelle; children Shaunnette, Shamita, son-in-law Jacobi; William, Kindu, daughter-in-law Bryeanna; Jovan, Diamon, Devante; grandchildren Anaiyah, Isaiah, Jaylen, Autumn, Nazir, Janyah, Kyrie, Amirah, Mahake, William (Noah); honorary mother-in-law Arcadia “Katie” Cotto, a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and extended family.
