Ronald Andrew Barnes

Ronald Andrew Barnes, 71, passed away on Monday, February 9, 2026, at UNC Health Wayne in Goldsboro.
Born January 8, 1955, in Johnston County, Ronald was the son of Louise Starling Barnes and the late Randall “Runt” Barnes. He was a 1973 graduate of Smithfield Selma High School and went on to earn a Master’s Degree from UNC Charlotte.
Ronald devoted his career to education and was known for being relatable, kind, and deeply committed to his students. He was well-loved by the students he taught, always engaging with them and mentoring them to ensure their success. He was greatly admired and respected by the faculty and principals with whom he worked. Over the years, he taught at Selma Middle School, North Johnston, Spring Creek, and Southern Wayne.
Outside the classroom, Ronald enjoyed camping, music, playing his guitar, fishing, and hunting—simple pleasures that brought him great joy.
A visitation will be held on Friday, February 13, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Parrish Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Saturday, February 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Crocker Cemetery in Selma, North Carolina.
Ronald is survived by his mother, Louise Barnes of Selma; his sister, Diana Best of Goldsboro; and his special friends, Terry and Denise Batson of Goldsboro.
