Ruby Inez Evans

Ruby (Inez) P. Evans of Selma, North Carolina, went home to be with Jesus on January 15th, 2026, surrounded by her loving family, in her home of Selma. Born on February 24th, 1930, in Brogden, North Carolina to the late John Milton Pilkington and Flora Edwards Pilkington.
Inez was married to the love of her life, Wilton, on May 28th, 1954. Together they built a beautiful life and had three wonderful daughters. She was instrumental in shaping the lives of numerous children through her in-home daycare for more than 40 years.
She was a devoted wife who supported her husband in many years of farming. She was a member of Branch Chapel Free Will Baptist Church for more than 50 years. One of her favorite things was talking about her grandchildren. She was very proud of their accomplishments in life, but she was most proud of their service to the Lord.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Luby C. Tyner Jr., sisters Arelia Edwards, Hazel Worley, Betty Evans and Phyllis Evans.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, January 19, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in the Branch Chapel FWB Church Cemetery with the Rev. Eric Narron officiating. Immediately following the service the family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of the church and at other times in the home.
She is survived by her husband, Wilton B. Evans; and her children Karen E. Miller (Woodrow), Renae E. Tyner and Terri E. Cockrell (Jeff). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Lindsay T. Ittenbach (Jerrod), Kristi L. Hales (Danny Ray), J. Drew Cockrell (India), Joel L. Cockrell (Lydia); and her great-grandchildren Silas and Kaydia Ittenbach, and special “adopted” son, Charles T. Wiggs; Sisters, Marguerite Greene, Kay Creech (Robert) and brother Mihlon Pilkington.
We would like to thank our family and friends for all the thoughts, prayers, food, visits, cards and calls during this difficult time. Specials thanks to Briana, Lori, Brianna, and Jessica of 3HC Hospice for their phenomenal care.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital at, Children’s Cancer Cause 1325 G Street NW, Washington, DC 20005.
