Goldsboro – Ruth Godwin Lipcsak Edwards, age 99, passed away on Friday, March 3, 2023, in the Helping Hands Assisted Living in Goldsboro. She was born on February 9, 1924, in Johnston County, a daughter of the late Julian and Bessie Godwin. She is preceded in death by her first husband Lt. Col. Mike Lipcsak, her late husband Elwood Edwards, step son, Tim Edwards, her dear friend Mac MacLeod and all her siblings.
Ruth was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church for many years and she was very active in the church. She was a very caring lady and she loved helping people in need. Ruth volunteered at the blood bank and other volunteer organizations. She was an excellent cook and a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Ruth also enjoyed playing bridge with friends, traveling and spending time with family. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, March 6, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in Selma with the burial to follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m.
She is survived by her children; Jimmy Lipcsak (Becky) of Wendell, Mike Lipcsak (Pam) of Goldsboro, Cathie Wall (Eddie) of Trent Woods; step-daughter, Anne Squire (Bill) of Wilmington, daughter-in-law, Peg Edwards of MS, thirteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Helping Hands Assisted Living in Goldsboro for all their help and care for Ruth.
