Ruth Irene Gurley Christie, 93, of Highland House Nursing & Rehabilitation, Fayetteville, N.C. passed away on March 16, 2025. She was born in Wake County on March 17, 1931 to the late John Leland Gurley and Ruth Martin Gurley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Henry Christie, son: Cecil P. Huffman, Jr. (Goldsboro), daughter: Sherry Huffman (Hope Mills); brother, Kermit Gurley, and sisters, Jean Wilson and Sarah Casey.
Mrs. Christie had a very diverse career. Among her many accomplishments are the following: worked in cancer research 36 years, Women’s Health Initiative and Memory Study for 23 years, Dental Assistant Degree, Associates in Automotive, nursing design assistant, owned insurance and real estate office, taught dental at Fayetteville Technical Institute, and worked as an LPN, instructor and nursing at Village Green Care Center. She was a member at Hope Mills United Methodist Church and participated in various activities in the church.
She is survived by a stepson, James Ronald Christie of Bluffton, Omaha; sisters, Cegerna Jones (Kingsport, Tn) and Karen Stephens (Hickory, NC); Grandchildren, Rhonda Cara, James Christie, Tamatha Britt, Timothy Keen, Celia Solarez, Cecil Huffman, III, Christen Honeycutt, and Taylor Huffman; 11 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great-Great Grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at Casey Funeral Home and Cremations.
The funeral will be held in the chapel of Casey Funeral Home and Cremations on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Dennis Pollock officiating. A private burial will be held at the Princeton Cemetery.
