Selma – Shelby Jean Crumpler Rhodes, age 78, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, January 6, 2023, in UNC Johnston Health of Smithfield. She was born on August 4, 1944, to the late Thelbert and Mildred Crumpler in Durham County.
Shelby and her family were founding members of Crumpler’s Crossroads Church. She was a member of the Church of God of Lucama. Shelby was an amazing pianist and loved playing in church. She was a loving, Christian woman and a lady of prayer. She enjoyed traveling with her husband after retirement and also enjoyed Gospel music. Shelby was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and her family was her favorite hobby. She will be missed by all her family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, January 12, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in Selma with the burial to follow in the Crumpler Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will also receive friends at other times at the home of Jeannie & Vanegas, 11 Wiggs Road, Selma, NC, 27576.
She is survived by her husband of fifty-nine years, John William Rhodes; daughters, Beverly Holloman (husband Tony) of Selma and Jeannie Vanegas (husband Luis) of Selma, son, John Randolph (Randy) Rhodes and wife Felicity of Selma, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
