Clayton – Sherwood Hooks Wood, age 94, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, June, 25, 2023, at the SECU Hospice House of Smithfield. He was born on August 30, 1928, a son of the late Elbert and Addie Mae Wood in Johnston County. Sherwood proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War aboard the U.S.S. Floyd B. Parks from 1948 – 1952. He was a member of Wilson’s Mills Baptist Church. Sherwood retired from Westinghouse Electrical Inc. in Raleigh and then began farming for more than thirty years. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He was a loving husband; father and a grandfather to his only grandson, who was the apple of his eye.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Parrish Funeral Home with Rev. Billie Lawson officiating with the burial to follow in Knollwood Memorial Park in Clayton. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m.
He is survived by his wife of seventy years, Mrs. Osie Byrd Wood, daughter, Vickie Wood Thompson (Scott) of Wilson; brothers, Glenwood Wood of Smithfield, Billy Wood of Colorado Springs, CO, Charlie Wayne Wood of CA; sisters, Evelyn Baker of Four Oaks, Shelby Jean Price of Garner, Jackie Allen of VA, Judy Casey of Garner and his grandson Scott Lee Thompson of New Bern.
