Shirley Langley Vick

    Frances Shirley Langley Vick, 87, passed away in Newton Grove on Friday, December 13, 2024 surrounded by her family. Born in Johnston County on February 26, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Harold Langley, Sr., and Glady’s Pope Langley.

    In addition to her parents, Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, Vernon L. Vick, Jr.; son, Thomas Edward Vick; siblings, Verlie Daniels, Harold Langley, Jr., Yvonne Kirby, and Margaret Rose Langley.

    Shirley is survived by her son, Ricky Neal Vick and wife, Laurel; grandchildren, Matthew Tyler Vick and wife, Jackie, Kristin Campbell and husband, Aaron, Taylor Pritchett and husband, Isaiah, and William Noe; and great-grandchildren, Lois Vick, Colton Campbell, Berkley Campbell, Eli Campbell, Dickie Pritchett, and Howie Pritchett, Shirley is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

    Shirley was a dedicated Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) who worked with compassion and care for many years. Her nurturing spirit was evident in her work and in every life she touched.

    Outside of her professional life, Shirley had a deep love for nature, especially her garden. She took great joy in tending to her flowers, with lilies and Gerber daisies being her favorites. Her home was always filled with the beauty of her garden.

    A passionate cook and baker, Shirley was known for her delicious pineapple cake, a treat that brought smiles to many. Her love for family and friends was shown through the meals she prepared with love and care.

    A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Kenly Missionary Baptist Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. A private inurnment will be held at the Langley Family Cemetery.

    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Lottie Moon, IMB 3806 Monument Ave. Richmond, VA 23230 in memory of Shirley.
