Stanley Earl Baker, 76, of Dunn, North Carolina was reunited with his late wife and great love, Sherry, on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at his passing.
Mr. Baker was born on July 10, 1947, in Harnett County to the late Albert and Hazel Baker of Linden. He is survived by his daughters, Sherry and Barbara, his grandsons Jacob and Ethan, and his bonus granddaughter Myla.
Mr. Baker served in the United States Army as a Medevac Crew Chief for the 54th Helicopter Ambulance Unit and the 498th Dustoff Medical Company from 1967 to 1969. His military decorations include The Distinguished Flying Cross and three Air Medal Awards.
After the war, he was a small engine mechanic and a local small business owner of Dunn Tool and Supply for most of his life before retiring in 1997 to focus on being a grandfather. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was an amazing father, grandfather, and friend. He is greatly loved and will be missed dearly.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at West and Dunn Funeral Home in Erwin, North Carolina from 5 pm to 6 pm. A memorial video will be available for viewing during visitation.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Rex Hospital in Raleigh, and SECU Hospice House in Smithfield for their compassion and care of Mr. Baker during his final days.
