Sylvia Ann Dixon Moore, 90, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2026, at Rex Hospital surrounded by her family. She will be remembered for her faith in God, her love of family and friends, delicious cooking, her dedication to helping others, and especially for her strong will and determination in the face of many adversities she had in her later years. She was born in Sampson County on October 23, 1935, to the late Willard and Mildred Jernigan Dixon.

Ann was a long-time member of Lee’s Chapel Original Free Will Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary and Senior Ministry. She was always ready to prepare food for shut-ins and funeral services. She will also be remembered for her handwritten notes and cards of love and encouragement to her family and friends. She was quick to tell everyone she did not text. Ann worked at Big Value Discount in downtown Dunn until her retirement in 1989. She then began her new and most cherished role as Granny.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Joseph Clifton Moore, beloved daughter Karen Medlin, sister, Jean Griffin, and brother, Oliver Dixon.

She is survived by her daughter, Debra Wheeler (Glenn), son, Gary Moore (Rhonda), son-in- law, Russell Medlin, and grandchildren, Matthew Medlin, Andrew Wheeler, Katie Blackmon, Ellen Tilghman, Joseph Wheeler, Abby Van-Hoy, twelve great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 6, 2026, at Skinner & Smith Funeral Home and other times at her home.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Lee’s Chapel Original Free Will Baptist Church, 4948 Plain View Highway, Dunn, NC. Burial will follow at Lee’s Chapel-Williford Cemetery.
