Sylvia Gilmore Mills

Sylvia Gilmore Mills, 79, of Smithfield passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2026 surrounded by her family. She was born in Johnston County on April 4, 1947 to the late William Harvey Gilmore and Viola Strickland Gilmore. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Levison Mills, Sr.; grandson, Dameon Mills; brothers, Ravon Gilmore, and Nelson Gilmore; sisters, Evelyn Gilmore, Brenda Rhodes, Viola Teenie Baker, and an infant son.

She is survived by her sons, Billy Christian, and Howard Levison Mills, II; daughter, Wendy Friel; grandchildren, Aaron Mills (Cheyenne), Travis Mills (Crystal), Amber Mills; great grandchildren, Rachiel Wilson (Seth), Nikki Mills, Caleb Mills, and Natalie Mills and Jerry Wilson (Kalina), Billy Ray Christian, Jr.; great great-grandson, Hudson Wade Wilson

The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 22, 2026 from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm at Casey Funeral Home & Cremations, 105 E. 1st St., Princeton, NC 27569.

At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to help with Mrs. Mills’ funeral expenses.
