Virginia Hodges Jones, 98, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 15, 2023. Virginia was born July 29, 1925, in Harnett County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Percy Cecil Jones and her parents, William and Maggie Hodges; brothers, Horace Hodges, Edwin Hodges, and George Hodges. Virginia was known for her excellent cooking, crocheting, and quilting.
She was a member of White Oak Baptist Church since 1955 volunteering with WMU, a Sunday School teacher, and a long-time member of the Martha Sunday School Class. Virginia was the oldest living member of White Oak. She was also a founding member of the White Oak Caregivers with life-long friends Mary Lou Gordon, Mary Lou Barnes, and Carolyn Pace.
Some of her fondest memories were lifelong friendships with neighbors and friends, time spent in the garden, shucking, blanching and freezing corn and putting up vegetables.
She served her community volunteering with the Archer Lodge Community Center and American Cancer Society as Relay for Life team captain. Virginia was a proud farmer’s wife and dearly loved her family.
Left to cherish Virginia’s memory is her daughter Ann Wall(Dan); grandchildren Richie Hogg(Stephanie), Angie Taylor(Rob), great grandchildren Tony Taylor(Lisa), Chelsea Taylor(Chaun), Camden Hogg(Michaela), Logan Taylor, Ashlyn Hogg; great-great grandchildren Corbin Johnson, James Seiple, Paisley Taylor, Hattie Mae Taylor; her brother Charles Hodges(Carolyn); many beloved nieces and nephews and their families, and countless friends.
Visitation will be held Monday, December 18 at McLaurin Funeral Home in Clayton from 6:00 until 8:00pm. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at 2:00pm at White Oak Baptist Church with Rev. Bryant Wilson officiating. Entombment will occur at Pinecrest Memorial Park Mausoleum, 12830 US 70 Bus Hwy W, Clayton, NC 27520. While flowers are accepted, memorial contributions may be made to: White Oak Baptist Church Bereavement Committee, 13943 Buffalo Rd Clayton, NC 27527.
