    Virginia McCurley Williams

It is with sadness we say goodbye but with joy we celebrate the life of Virginia M. Williams. Virginia died on February 12, 2022, at the age of 91.

Virginia was born in Sentinal, Oklahoma on February 4, 1931, to Alvin and May McCurley. She graduated from Cordell High School and from Oklahoma A&M College (now Oklahoma State University) Phi Kappa Phi. While in college, she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Virginia taught Home Economics for several years.

In 1953, Virginia married Jerry Williams, her hometown sweetheart, and, as she often said, “began one adventure after another”. Together they lived in Michigan, Japan, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Virginia and North Carolina making and keeping lifelong acquaintances.

Although in various towns, Virginia was active in garden clubs, bridge groups, knitting circles, tennis groups and women of the church groups. Special mention to her close group of first cousins and spouses who regularly traveled together.

She was preceded in death by son, Scott Williams, husband, Jerry Williams and sister, Betty Lenaburg. She is survived by son, Mark Williams (Lanette), daughter, Sarah Williams (Bradley) and daughter in law, Gay Pernell (Jimmy). She is also survived by grandchildren, Dana Corey (Gray), Kevin Willliams (LeeAnna), Ashley Williams, Julie Leary (Kevin), Kathryn Williams, Leigh Williams, Ryan Williams and eight great grandchildren.

The family appreciates so much the love and support Virginia received during her years at Scotia Village. We especially thank the Lighthouse and therapy staff for their wonderful care to both Virginia and to the family.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 19, 2022, in Sunset Memorial Park, Smithfield, NC.

In lieu of flowers, the family would ask for those to consider making a charitable donation to First Presbyterian Church, 215 S. 3rd Street, Smithfield, N.C. 27577 or Laurinburg Presbyterian Church, 600 W. Church Street, Laurinburg, N.C. 28352.
