Princeton – Wendy Elizabeth Philyaw, age 55, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at Duke University Hospital in Durham, surrounded by her family. Born, June 25, 1969, in Hopewell, VA she was a daughter of the late Billy T. Whitley and Mary Howell Whitley. Wendy is preceded in death by her only daughter, Heather Philyaw.
Wendy loved being involved in anything that brought her joy, including her family and Jesus. She was an active member of Temple City Church. Wendy graduated from the University of Phoenix with a Bachelors of Applied Science in Accounting and Finance. She served her country in the United States Navy. Wendy worked for Grifols Therapeutics for 25 years. She loved Jesus as a devout Christian and spending time with her family was always her top priority. Wendy loved her friends and was naturally the “life of the party”. She loved photography, getting her nails done, going shopping, extreme couponing, and traveling anywhere she could fit her camper.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, December 20, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Temple City Church in Selma, with the burial to follow in Price Cemetery. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Wendy is survived by her husband of 27 years, Chris Philyaw, sons; Dustin Philyaw, Blake Philyaw, Brett Philyaw, and Blaine Philyaw, six grandchildren; Bentley Hickey, Samantha Philyaw, Kaylee Philyaw, Leighton Hickey, Liam Philyaw and Brynlee Philyaw, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
