William “Bill” Alfred Sellers

    Selma – William “Bill” Alfred Sellers, age 74, passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2023, at his home in Selma. Born on August 30, 1948, in Johnston County, he was the son of the late William Crawford Sellers and Pattie Lou Smith Sellers.

    Bill was a member of United Faith Christian Church in Selma. He was a 100% disabled Veteran who proudly served in the US Army and was a faithful member of the VFW in Selma. In his earlier years, Bill enjoyed woodworking, welding, and dancing. In his later years, he enjoyed gardening, but his entire life, he loved to cook for family and friends. He also served in the Boy Scouts as an Assistant Scoutmaster and mentor, teaching pioneer skills and cooking for over 30 years. Everyone who knew Bill knew he could be a tough cookie, but he also could joke around and tell you about how to cook or rig anything.

    A memorial service will be held in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8, 2023. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 pm, just prior to the service.

    Bill is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Dorette Jones Sellers of Selma; son, William “Billy” Larry Sellers of Rocky Mount; daughters, Renee Matthews Hinton of Princeton and Angela Matthews Baker and husband Johnny of Smithfield; grandson, Jonah Matthew Hinton and godchildren, Angela Sanders and Will Putnam, Jr.

    The family would like to thank the compassionate caregivers of Community Homecare and Hospice (Gentiva Hospice).
