William Pitt Bizzell (Bill), age 85, of Asheboro, N.C. passed into the loving arms of his Savior on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, with his beloved family at his side. He is preceded in death by his parents P.o. and Pauline Bizzell, brother Frank, sisters Sarah and Betsy Bizzell, first wife Nancy Blackwell Bizzell and granddaughter Lanie Margaret Bizzell.
Bill was born on October 28, 1937 in Fayetteville, N.C. He attended Fayetteville City Schools and graduated from Fayetteville Senior High School in 1956. He then attended N.C. State College, (now N.C. State University) and graduated in 1960 with a BS Degree in Civil Engineering Construction Option.
Upon graduation Bill was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army through the ROTC program at NCSU, and as a result owed Uncle Sam two years active duty service. He took Officers Basic Training at Fort Belvoir, Virginia and after completion was assigned to a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Construction Battalion at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. Bill was later commissioned as a First Lieutenant in October, 1961.
In March 1961, Bill and Nancy Ellen Blackwell were married at the First Baptist Church in Fayetteville, NC. They had two children, Gregory Alan and Kinzie Lynne. Greg and wife Gwen and grandson David, live near Selma, N.C. Kinzie and husband Richard Wyche Jive in Apex, N.C. with grandchildren Jackie and Sidney. Stepson Shane Kindschi lives in Asheboro. Nancy passed away in March 2001 after an extended battle with throat cancer.
Bill met Phyllis Ann Richardson at Central Methodist Church in June of 2002, and they were married there on August 24, 2002. He always said it was love at first sight and something that was meant to be. The Lord worked in both their lives, making miracles happen, in order to bring them together. What a blessed day that was.
After his Army service was over Bill worked for T.A. Loving Construction Company in Raleigh, N.C., then the City of High Point Engineering Department. Bill joined Moore Gardner and Associates (Engineers, Surveyors) of Asheboro, N.C. in 1970. After Moore Gardner sold out to Black and Veatch Engineers, Bill stayed with Black and Veatch until they closed the Asheboro office in 1998. He then opened an Asheboro Office for The Wooten Company Engineers & Planners of Raleigh, N.C., serving as the office manager until he retired in 2006.
Bill was active in the Professional Engineers of N.C., and held several offices in PENC, as well as in PEPP, the Professional Engineers in Private Practice. He was a registered Professional Engineer in N.C., S.C. and VA.
Bill was an active member of Central United Methodist. He served on the Board of Trustees and a member of the Good News Sunday School Class where he taught for a number of years. Bill was also a member of the Kiwanis Club of Asheboro. Bill enjoyed traveling, fishing at the outer Banks and golfing with his buddies.
A graveside service will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery in Newton Grove, N.C. on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.
A Celebration of Life will beheld in the Central United Methodist Church’s Sanctuary in Asheboro, NC on Friday, May 12, 2023 at 2:00 p.m., with the family receiving friends immediately following the service in the Family Life Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Randolph County at 416 Vision Drive, Asheboro, N.C. 27203 or to the Boys and Girls Homes, 400 Flemington Drive, Lake Waccamaw, N.C. 28450.
