William “Bill” Ray Simpson, 49, of Selma, NC, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, April 28, 2024, surrounded by his family after a 5-year battle with Cancer. Bill was married to Amy Tholen Simpson for 23 years and a loving father to his children, Joel Simpson and Danielle Simpson. Bill cherished his family above all else. His kindness, warm smile, and willingness to help others will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He is preceded in Death by his parents, Ramon “Butch” Simpson, Brenda Dillon Buckner, Barbara LeMaster Simpson, nephew Owen Simpson, and niece Anicia Turner.
He was born in Columbus, Ohio, to the late Ramon “Butch” Simpson and Brenda Dillion Buckner on March 20th, 1975. His departure from this world leaves behind cherished memories and a legacy that will forever be remembered by those who knew him.
Bill graduated from Rutherford B. Hayes High School in Delaware, Ohio and attended Hocking Technical College in Nelsonville, Ohio studying GIS/GPS. His passion was quality and leadership in Wastewater Management. He worked as a Lab Supervisor and Pretreatment Coordinator for the Upper Olentangy Water Reclamation Center with the City of Delaware, Ohio. In 2014, he moved to North Carolina as a Lab Supervisor and was promoted to Water Reclamation Superintendent, Little Creek Wastewater Treatment Facility for the Town of Clayton.
In addition to his professional endeavors, Bill was a passionate advocate for the Boy Scouts of America, as a youth and an Assistant Scoutmaster with both of his children, Joel and Danielle. Bill was also actively involved in the Girl Scouts as a Leader with Danielle. Bill and Amy were Foster Parents for many years and adopted their son, Joel from Foster Care.
Bill was a proud member of the Masonic Order, holding the esteemed position of 32nd degree Master Mason at the Hiram Lodge No. 33 in Delaware, Ohio where he also served as a Senior Deacon.
He is survived by his wife Amy Tholen Simpson and his two children, Joel and Danielle Simpson, His brothers Kevin (Amy) Simpson, Jason Jenkins, Ramon “Buster” Simpson Jr., Zachary (Christa) Ellis, John (Debbie) Scaggs and his sisters Eva Simpson, Barbara Simpson Saxon, Kim Felkner Jernee, and Amanda Simpson. Bill also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins whom he loved dearly.
Bill leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and dedication that will continue to inspire those who knew him. Though he may be gone from this world, his spirit will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and community.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church 8490 NC-39 Middlesex, NC, 27557. The family will receive visitors from 5:30 – 6:00 p.m.
An additional memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 5, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. at the Brown Township Hall in Kilbourne, OH, 5555 State Route 521 Kilbourne, OH 43032.
