William “Billy” Raper

    William “Billy” Raper, 63, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 20, 2024. Born in Wilson County on September 9, 1960, he was the son of the late Reuben Raper and Lucille Tedder Raper.

    In addition to his parents, Billy is preceded in death by his aunts, Dolly Teal, and Gertrude Pate.

    Billy is survived by his loving wife, Bette Johnston Raper; stepsons, Joseph Johnston, and Scott Johnston; step-grandchildren, Grant Johnston, Garrett Johnston, Kaylee Johnston, and Kamryn Johnston; sister, Jane Weeks, and husband, Nelson; sisters-in-law, Susan Hamilton, and Ellen Flynn; and brother-in-law, Frank Johnston, Jr. Billy is also survived by many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.

    Billy felt most comfortable while outdoors. Nothing made him happier than cutting his grass, fishing, or standing next to his grill. Billy never met a stranger. He loved talking to anybody and could always make them feel as if they had made a new, life-long friend. Billy could be known to tell a joke or two and have the whole room laughing.

    A special time of visitation and remembrance for Billy will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2024 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Kenly Funeral Service.
