William Robert Greene went to be with his Lord on August 9 of 2024 at the age of 81 years. He was at home and surrounded by his loving family and his faithful canine companion, Skeeter Man. Born August 12, 1942 in Johnston County he was a son of the late Robert Doyt Greene and Pearlie Mae Price Greene. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Bobby Greene, Jimmy Greene, and Richard Greene; sisters, Ruby Carson, and Irma Watson.
William was a devoted father and husband, grandfather, and great grandfather. He faithfully attended Selma Elizabeth St. Church of God of Prophecy and worked in many capacities to further the Gospel. He served as a paratrooper in the 173rd Airborne and was a Vietnam veteran who was injured in combat and bore a lifelong disability with grace and pride. William loved the outdoors and never met a fish he did not like. He enjoyed hours of tinkering with chainsaws and lawn mowers but his favorite time spent was making firewood with his son Robbie. He was a trusted friend and was generous and kind to all who met him, a man after God’s own heart.
