Wilma Gray Hall, age 82, passed away on Wednesday afternoon August 31, 2022, in Virginia at Fairfax Hospital. Family was there with her. Born July 3, 1940, in Selma, North Carolina, to the late Garland Arthur Howell and Lena Estelle Parrish/Howell-Dixon. She was preceded in death by her husband Ron Hall, their son, Phillip Hall, her brother, Joseph Howell and son-in-law, Danny Sugerman.
She attended Mount Vernon High School in Virginia and worked at Lerner’s clothing shop in Alexandria until she began her career working as a civil servant for the U.S. Government. She served as a Secretary with the U.S. Air Force at the Pentagon and then as an Executive Assistant at the White House to National Security Advisors serving seven Presidents.
Her responsibilities involved traveling all over the world, including a trip to China with Dr. Henry Kissinger. Before retiring, she accepted the CIA Director’s request to be his Assistant. This turned out to be yet another historic moment in her career as our country faced the aftermath of 9/11. Her friends and colleagues remember her with great fondness and as one said “The world lost another light and soldier for freedom”. In 2006, she retired to join Ron in the next chapter of their lives together enjoying family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at the Bizzell Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church, just prior to the funeral services at 2:00 pm. The Rev. Phillip Bland and Mr. Jerry Bizzell will officiate. Burial will follow in Bizzell Grove Memorial Gardens.
Surviving are her daughters, Ronda “Hall” Starnell and husband Peter of Lakewood Ranch, FL, Fawn Hall Sugerman of Los Angeles, CA and Meredith Hall Weberg and husband Allan of Woodbridge, VA; granddaughter, Lisa Starnell Wakeland and husband John of Arlington, TX; sister, Diane Gallant of Fairfax Station, VA; numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.
