Dunn, NC: Mrs. Annie Ellen Adams Surles, age, 91, entered the arms of Jesus on Sunday, March 28, 2021 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 6:00PM, Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at Stone’s Creek Advent Christian Church 343 Woods Crossroads Road, Benson, NC 27504. Rev. Joe Brown will officiate. A Private Graveside Service will be held 11:00AM, Thursday, April 1, 2021 at Banner Chapel Advent Christian Church, Benson, NC.
Mrs. Surles was born on January 20, 1930 in Johnston County to the late Johnny and Mancy Lee Adams. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Jack Surles and Jesse Parsons; son, Johnnie Mark Surles, and her siblings, Woodrow Adams, Pinkney Adams, and Edward Adams. Mrs. Surles was a 1948 graduate of Meadow High School and a 1950 graduate of Rex School of Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Dorothea Dix Hospital, Swift Industries, Cape Fear Valley Hospital, and Betsy Johnson Hospital. She was the director of nursing of Golden Years Nursing Home in Falcon, where she was dedicated to her passion of geriatric nursing. She also was passionate about southern gospel music and manage her children’s singing ministry, The Young and United for many years. Mrs. Surles was a member of Antioch Baptist Church where she was a member of Kathy McCallister Sunday School Class.
Surviving include her son, Jeffrey Surles; her daughter, Jackie Surles Dennis and husband, Doug; daughter-in-law, Yvonne Surles; grandsons, Jason Dennis and wife, Haley, and Jeremy Dennis and wife, Brittany; great-grandchildren, Delanie Dennis, Leighton Dennis, Ryleigh Whitley, Jack Dennis and Landon Dennis (arriving June 2021); brother, J.D. Adams and wife, Faye; step-son, Jay Parsons; step-daughter-in-law, Debbie Parsons; step-grandchildren, Meagan Grady and husband, H.D., and Jeremy Parsons and friend, Hannah Jackson, and Allison Parsons, and baby Grady (arriving June 2021); many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their profound appreciation to the compassionate team of caregivers who lovingly cared for our mother, Bessie Lee, Dianne Scoggins, Sue Capps, Christina Sumes, Bobbie A, Jan Herring, Sheryl Jackson, Debbie Lee, Hilda B, and Jennifer Ferguson.
The family will receive friends following the Celebration of Life Service in the vestibule of Stones Creek Advent Christian Church and other times at her home, 603 W. Pearsall Street, Dunn, NC 28334.
In accordance with the current NC-COVID-19 guidelines, the funeral home suggests practicing social distancing guidelines and the three W’s: wait, wash and wear a face covering. A mask is required for all services.

Surles had a passion for care of the elderly in facilities.
