Arvel Ray “Blackie” Spain, Jr. 71, of Smithfield passed away at his home on Sunday, April 23, 2017. He was born November 11, 1945 and is the son of the late Arvel Ray Spain, Sr. and Mary Wilma Roach Spain. The family will have a Memorial Service on May 6, 2017 at 11:30 am in the chapel of Yelverton Grove OFWB Church, 1094 Yelverton Grove Church Road, Smithfield, NC 27577.
He is survived by a son, Aaron Spain; daughters, Melissa Shadrick of Patoka, Illinois, and Cheryl Addison of Mount Vernon, Illinois; brothers, Robert Spain of Carbondale, Illinois, and Earl Spain of DuQuoin, Illinois; sister, Linda Moon of Villa Grove, Illinois; 9 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren.
