ZEBULON – Barbara Nell Atkinson Jeffreys, age 78, passed peacefully surrounded by her family Monday evening, August 27, 2018, at her home. Born May 9, 1940, in Johnston County to the late Charlie Marvin and Nellie Parker Atkinson, she was the widow of Joseph Harold Jeffreys who died April 3, 2013. She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Joel Johnson. She was a faithful member of Thanksgiving Baptist Church where, over the years, she served as a Sunday school teacher, GA leader, and VBS Director, and she loved the WMU ladies and their mission activities. She also held many offices within the Johnston County school system.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Friday, August 31, 2018, at Thanksgiving Baptist Church with Pastor Doug Vaughan officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m., just prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.
Surviving are her daughters, Lynne Britton and husband, Tim, and Leigh Johnson; grandchildren, Tyler Britton, Crystal Britton, Jan Johnson and Jared Johnson all of Zebulon; sister, Evelyn Ellis of Kenly, her daughter, Barbara “Babs” Simmons and many other special nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Thanksgiving Baptist Church, 6701 NC 42 E, Selma, NC 27576.
