Smithfield – Battle Rufus “Bill” Olive, age 72, died Monday morning in WakeMed of Raleigh. Born June 18, 1946 in Johnston County to the late James Clee and Willie Maxine Boykin Olive, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty O. Carroll and a nephew, Phillip S. Olive. Bill was a retired heavy equipment mechanic with the Fred Smith Co. and attended Little Creek Primitive Baptist Church and Clement Primitive Baptist Church. He was a US Army veteran of Vietnam, where he was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries he received in battle.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 18, 2018 in the Little Creek Primitive
Baptist Church, with Elder Craig Olive and Elder David Cothren officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Knollwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 -8:00 p.m. Wednesday night at Parrish Funeral Home in Selma.
Surviving are his brothers, James Phillip “Tip” Olive and his wife Donna of Clayton, Martin Monty “Fuzzy” Olive, Sr. and wife Marsha of Smithfield, Ronnie Keith Olive and wife Trish of Clayton, and Craig Olive of Clayton; sisters, Terry O. Nichols and husband Bruce of Clayton, Cathy O. Daniels of Clayton; Angela Olive of Dudley; nieces and nephews, Marc Olive, Monty Olive, Amber Olive, Justin Ellis, Anthony Ellis, Keith Olive, Rhonda Gail Olive, Kristy Murray, and Amanda Johnson; and great nieces and nephews, Cody Olive, Taylor Olive, Hannah Olive, Aiden Stephenson, Asa Stephenson, Avery Stephenson, Eric Narron, Kacee Murray, Mason Johnson, and Cambree Johnson.
