Benny Wayne Powell, 64, broke his chains that held him down and was set free by his Lord on Thursday, January 3, 2019. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 6, 2018 at 2:00pm in the chapel of McLaurin Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Sheila Gore Powell; son, Josh Powell of Wendell; brother, Danny Powell of Smithfield and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, BC and Bea Powell of Clayton.
Benny was a simple, sweet soul who loved his God, his country, family, friends and little critters. He was a proud southern man. He has fought the good fight and has gone home to see his mama, daddy and his hound dog.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, one hour prior to the service from 1 until 2:00pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the building fund of Just Jesus Community Church c/o Alan Hicks, 1604 Buckingham Road, Garner, NC 27529.
