Clayton – Betty Jane Evans Batten, age 82, died early Thursday, March 09, 2017 in Wake Medical Center in Raleigh. Born September 12, 1934 in Johnston County she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Poly Pendergraph Evans. She was preceded in death by her husband, Percy Batten; and brothers, Lester Evans and David Evans. Betty was a member of Fellowship Free Will Baptist Church and attended Pleasant Plain Free Will Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 11, 2017 in Pleasant Plain FWB Church with Rev. Billy Nowell and Rev. Harold Brown officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Parrish Funeral Home in Selma. A private burial will be conducted Monday in Selma Memorial Gardens.
Surviving are her daughter, Carolyn Batten and husband Rev. Harold Brown of Clayton; brothers, William Evans, James Evans, and Charlie Evans, Jr.; sisters, Marie Marlowe, Mary Boyette, and Brenda Petit; grandchildren, Angela Yuhas, Amy Malone, and April Smith; and great grandchildren, Michael Brown, Brittany Yuhas, Alex Malone, Ryan Malone, Justin Malone, Mackenzie Brown, and Jonathan Brown.
