    Betty Jewel Vaughn Hooks

Betty Jewel Vaughn Hooks, 79, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Friday, July 2, 2021.

She was born in Wayne County on April 10, 1942 to the late Herman Vaughn and Betty Greene Vaughn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Aaron Rand Hooks.

Moma was a hard worker all her life, she loved to help people with nothing in return. She helped many of her family members, friends and neighbors; especially when they grew older and needed extra care. In her earlier years she loved to have fun and loved to dance. In fact, her brother (Lester) told us that when she was young, he would have to hold the ground wire to the radio so she could dance! She also loved to sew a variety of things especially for Jessica and Megan and those ruffled dresses! When they were born, they brought her so much joy and she was their second mom! She enjoyed decorating cakes, making a variety of flower arrangements and making crafts with Kim Sasser. She was devoted to making her yard look beautiful. Filled it with flowers and plants. Of course, moma had many talents we could write a book. She was a gift from God!

A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 5, 2021 at 10:00 am in the Hollowell Family Cemetery with the Reverend Dennis Pollock officiating.

She is survived by her son, Ralph Hooks of Goldsboro; daughters, Phyllis Ginn (Steve), Brenda Thornton, and Linda Hooks all of Goldsboro; brother, Herman Lester Vaughn (Deborah)of Texas; 5 grandchildren, Justin Hooks, Jessica Melvin. Megan Taylor, Tayla Martin and Lindsey Martin and 5 great grandchildren, Jala, Bella, Zaidan and Carson and Ally.
