Betty Sue Boykin Denton (81) passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, July 29, 2020. Born July 8, 1939 in Nash County, NC, Betty was a Godly woman, devoted wife of 60 years, sister, sister-in-law, mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Betty loved her family and grandchildren and lived a life doing for others. She also loved her church family at Lee’s Chapel Baptist Church in Middlesex. Betty was a hairdresser for 50 years and enjoyed making people pretty. She always said the last good deed she could do for someone after they passed away, was still make them pretty, by offering to style their hair. She was a giver in so many beautiful ways. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie C. Denton, parents, Albert Dewey and Mildred Boykin, brothers, Keith Boykin and Carl Boykin and sister, Jean Stone.
Funeral services will be conducted at Parrish Funeral Home in Selma with Rev. Gary Rogers and Rev. Joel Story officiating. The family will receive friends Friday, July 31st from 5:30 to 6:45PM followed by the funeral at 7PM in the Parrish Chapel. The graveside service will be at 10AM Saturday, August 1st at Lee’s Chapel Baptist Church cemetery in Middlesex.
Surviving are her children, Tim Denton (Kim), Carla Batten (Randy), Debbie Strickland (Ricky), Amy Waddell, Kim Overman (Paul); sister, Hilda Painter (Jim), brothers, Gerald (Dock) Boykin (Gail), Billy Boykin (Linda); grandchildren, Emily Surles (Robert), Crystal Wright (Brittany), Tara Strickland, Garrett Strickland (Rachel), Samantha Waddell, Jessica Waddell, Chase Waddell, Trista Waddell, Ethan Overman, Haley Overman, Lukas Overman and great-grandson, Jackson Lee Surles; and numerous nieces and nephews.
