    Billy Bruce Wiggs, 91, of Smithfield went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 23, 2021. He was born on December 9, 1929 in Smithfield, NC. He is preceded in death by his parents James H Wiggs, Sr. and Bridgette Williams Wiggs; wife Elgie Allen Wiggs; brothers James Wiggs, Jr., Charles Wiggs, Frank Wiggs and sister Hortense Wilkins.

    Billy was a graduate of Smithfield High School and served in the U.S Army during the Korean conflict. Billy was a people person. He had a career in sales that allowed him to travel throughout Eastern North Carolina to call upon his clients. Billy never met a stranger. Through his work he made many friends that have lasted through the years.

    A lifelong member of First Baptist Church, he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, greeter on Sunday mornings and was always ready to help with whatever needed doing. He loved his church family. Billy received a certificate for 60 years of service from the American Legion Post 132, where he held the position of Chaplain for many years. He volunteered with many community groups including the Neuse Little Theater and the Johnston County Beekeepers Association. He was affectionately dubbed the “Mayor of Rose Manor”, where he lived for 51 years with his wife Elgie. A devoted grandfather, he never missed an opportunity to attend his grandchildren’s sports events, church programs or any and all special events in their lives.

    A graveside service will be held on Sunday, April 25 at 2:00 p.m. in Oakland Heights Cemetery in Smithfield with Rev. Lee Colbert officiating.

    Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Teresa Johnson (David) of Fayetteville, Angie High of Charlotte, grandchildren, Bridgette Johnson Kotsubka (Adam) of Raleigh, Lewis Johnson III (Zahra) of Fayetteville and Stuart Johnson of Colorado. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Bonnie Wiggs of Denton, TX and Norma Jackson of Clayton as well as many special nieces and nephews.

    In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 202 S 4th Street, Smithfield, NC.
