Smithfield – On the evening of June 28, 2017 with family by his side, Bobby Sherwood Gurley, passed into the eternal presence of Jesus on his 70th birthday. Born June 28, 1947 in Johnston County he was a son of the late Willie and Nettie Williford Gurley. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Kenneth Gurley, Joyce Odom, and Billy Gurley. Bobby began his career as a North Carolina Highway Patrol Officer and later transitioned to a Maintenance Engineer position with Grifols, formerly Bayer, for 42 years. He was an avid outdoorsman, involved in fishing, hunting and farming. He enjoyed spending time on the farm with his family and enjoying the country life.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2017 in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home with Rev. Dennis Pollock officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Saturday just prior to the service, and at other times at the home.
Surviving are his wife, of 46 years, Sylvia Gurley of the home; son, John Gurley and wife Kalicia of Smithfield; sister, Helen McLamb of Smithfield; grandsons, Cole, Camden, Caygen, and Cade Gurley; and many nieces and nephews.
