Bonnie Thompson Duffy

    Smithfield- Bonnie Lee Duffy passed away at her home, surrounded by her family, on May 11th after a long illness. Bonnie was born on September 10, 1934 in Ada, Oklahoma to Josie and Homer Thompson. A Native American of the Chickasaw Nation, Bonnie had a distinguished career with the Department of Dense, AAFES, for 38 years, rising through the ranks from a part-time food service worker to become a trail blazing command level executive, serving in the US and Europe. Her accomplishments have been an inspiration to her children and grandchildren, inculcating in them the ethics of hard work, accountability, and persistence. She enjoyed a long and dynamic marriage with the love of her life, Charles Duffy, who preceded her in death in 1996. Bonnie is survived by her daughters, Patricia (David) Cory and Richarda (Mark) Momsen; her son, Richard (Sheri) Duffy; by her grandchildren, Charles and Chelsea Cory, Moriah Momsen, Eric and Randi Knutson; and by her great grandchildren, Shane Harkrider and Promise Knutson. Warmest thanks to Transitions Life Care, Hospice of Wake County, who were by Bonnie’s side for 19 months and supported her daughter, Patricia and family during a difficult time.
