    Calvin Glenn Warren, age 93, peacefully passed away on October 4, 2021 at Bermuda Village in Bermuda Run, NC. Affectionately known as Grandy by his family, Calvin was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was widely known by friends and acquaintances for his love of conversation. He loved to tell his family stories of his childhood, as he was often heard saying, “I lived it”. He loved being an educator and truly cared about his students.

    Calvin was born on July 16, 1928 in Northampton County to the late Bailey Elbert and Pattie Futrell Warren. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Fran Louise Warren; sister, Anna Warren Long; and brothers, Wiley Elbert Warren, James (Jay) Warren and Finton Warren. Mr. Warren served in the US Navy for 2 years, serving aboard the USS Midway aircraft carrier during the Korean War. He graduated from Severn High School, received his B.S. in Agriculture from NC State University, and his Masters in School Administration from East Carolina University. Mr. Warren spent his entire professional career as an educator, a career that spanned 32 years. He began as a teacher and coach at Camden High School, spent 2 years as principal at Benson High School, served one year at Halifax Community College, and then returned to Johnston County where he retired as the principal of Selma Elementary School. He moved to New Bern, NC in 2011 where he resided until July 2021.

    The church was a very important part of Calvin’s life. He attended Meherrin Baptist Church in Murfreesboro, Sawyer’s Creek Baptist Church in Camden, Selma Baptist Church in Selma, and Brice’s Creek Bible Church in New Bern. Over the years he served as Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon, and Men’s Sunday School Teacher. He was a member of the Camden Lions Club, the Selma Lions Club, and the American Legion.

    A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Selma Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Barry Teague officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.

    Surviving are his wife of almost 70 years, Frances Edwards Warren; daughter, Cathy Warren Womack and husband Billy; son, Dr. Calvin Glenn Warren, Jr. and wife Teresa; grandchildren, Dr. Maggie Womack Hansell and husband Nick, Erin Ashley Womack, Adam Parrish Warren and his wife Kristen and Dr. Alexandria Warren Edwards and her husband Chase; great grandchildren, Colin Hansell, Kendall Warren, Jacob Hansell and Leah Warren and sisters-in-law, Louise Mann and Anne McPhail.
