Smithfield—Carmel Thornton Sutton, 95, passed away at her home on April 30, 2017.
Born in Wayne County on April 14, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Vira Thornton. Carmel was also preceded in death by her husband, Thaddeus Sutton, and by her brother, Sammie D. Thornton.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:30 PM on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at Corinth United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 PM until 2:15 PM, prior to the service. Her body will lie in state at Underwood Funeral Home from 10 AM until 1 PM on Tuesday.
Surviving are: son, Eddie Sutton and friend Sarah B. Cook; grandchildren, Jason Edward Sutton and wife Erica, Mary Katheryn Mazur and husband Bryan; great grandchildren, Fox Sutton, Mary Frances Sutton, Chloe Mazur; special friends, Jackie Thornton and Nell Woodard.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Corinth United Methodist Church, 4170 US 301 South, Four Oaks, NC 27524.
